Running a specialty fabric shop is all about the little things — remembering which fabrics your regulars love, keeping inventory just right, and fitting online orders into a busy day.
When the little things start to pile up, though, the work can feel heavier than it needs to be.
That’s the place Calico Cupboard in Pataskala, Ohio found itself in — and where Like Sew came into the picture. Here’s Calico Cupboard’s story, and how the right tools helped everything click.
About Calico Cupboard
Calico Cupboard was opened by Sherry Monfort on March 3, 2003.
What began as a love for quilting grew into a fabric shop that has served its local quilting community for more than 20 years. The store specializes in quilting fabrics, cottons, and sewing essentials.
For a long time, the shop ran without a point of sale (POS) system. There was a simple website where people could look at fabrics, but most of the work happened the old-fashioned way.
“Not really knowing what a point of sale system was,” Sherry says, “we didn’t know what we needed.”
Like many small shop owners, Sherry put her energy into her craft and her customers first. Technology quickly took on a key role once the daily work started to pile up.

The Challenge
As Calico Cupboard grew, keeping track of everything became harder.
Inventory needed closer attention, and prices had to stay consistent. Customers often came back asking for the same fabrics they’d bought before, and answering those questions meant relying on memory or notes.
At the same time, more customers wanted to shop online. Without the right tools, offering online sales felt like more work than the shop could handle.
Sherry needed a way to keep things organized without making the business feel complicated.
Why Like Sew
When Sherry heard what Like Sew could do for her store, she remembers thinking, “It just sounds really good, let’s do it.”
With Like Sew, Calico Cupboard finally had one system to manage inventory, pricing, and customer history.
The team could see what was in stock, what was selling, and what needed to be reordered — without guessing or digging through notes. Customer service improved, too. Staff could pull up past purchases in seconds and assist customers immediately.
Like Sew felt like a natural step forward for Calico Cupboard.
How Like Sew Makes Online Sales Easy
With Like Sew, online sales became effortless, and Sherry noticed the impact right away.
Customers could browse fabrics, place orders, and have them cut and mailed directly from the shop. Behind the scenes, everything stayed simple and organized.
“It’s so easy to get orders,” Sherry says. “We print it out, cut it, get it mailed off.”
Today, online orders continue to add flexibility without taking time away from in-store customers.
How Like Sew Helps Customers Feel Remembered
One of the things Sherry loves most about Like Sew is how it helps the team connect with repeat customers.
With purchase history right at their fingertips, staff can quickly see what someone bought before, check if it’s still in stock, and help them reorder the same fabric without missing a beat.
Sherry shares a perfect example: “If a customer comes in and says, ‘Do you remember when I bought this? Do you still have this?’ we can go to their history, look at it, and say yes or no.”
It’s a small moment, but it means a lot. Customers notice when they’re remembered, and that personal touch keeps them coming back again and again.

The Difference the Right Tools Make
Today, Like Sew still helps Calico Cupboard stay organized behind the scenes.
“If I had to recommend a point of sale, it would most definitely be Like Sew,” Sherry says.
Inventory is clearer, pricing is consistent, and both in-store and online sales run more smoothly. The system supports the team’s work without getting in the way.
At the end of the day, it’s the little things Like Sew takes off their plate that make the biggest difference for Calico Cupboard and its customers.
